The Goddess

From the onset of cognitive human existence woman was resurrected as metaphor for the Great Goddess, the life providing energy which we call God, Source or the Absolute. The Goddess was the full embodiment of an early, and now reemerging cosmogonical belief, which renews nature, pilots individual direction and alleviates death through rebirth.

The Goddess belief system does not elevate woman above man but includes man as her respective equal, for though woman was recognized as the GODdess incarnate by her body philosophically symbolizing fertility, abundance and the perpetuation of existence, it was her characteristics of compassion, beauty, trust/faith, sincerity, harmony, love, sharing and service which were seen as holy and equally entrusted to man.

I paint the Goddess, heralding these early times now reemerging, and feel my paintings are a metalanguage for our future egalitarian culture venerating gentle traits associated with femininity into a broader scope of mankind.

Many of my paintings have a black background. In early times black represented the color of fertility - the womb where life emerged and nourishing soils. Red ochre was the vibrant color of life. White indicated earthy inhabitance, the end of physical life and a new beginning.

When I paint I am enveloped into a realm where the mythic imagination enters a global awareness that we are one tribe embracing these divine traits into today’s reality and once again becoming the earth-centered, balanced, nonviolent culture we are destined to be.
